Ash Wednesday is the start of a period of prayer, fasting and abstinence for 40 days (excluding Sundays) until Easter. The palm crosses received on Palm Sunday of the previous year are collected, burned and, on Ash Wednesday, the ashes are used to mark a cross on the forehead of believers as an expression of repentance and penance of our sins.

As is the tradition, there will be no flowers in our Church during lent. We use this period to specifically focus on the cross of Jesus.
